Most of the time, when you experience ribs pain where bra sits is proof that your bra is hurting your ribs. Buying a new bra only for it to hurt your ribs can be a bit disheartening. Especially if you spent top dollar on purchasing the best bra, you could afford. So how do you know why your bra is hurting your ribs?
Why Does My Bra Hurt My Ribs?
-
The Bra is Too Small
If you buy a bra that is smaller than your bosom, you will experience pain in your ribs. This is because the bra will be compressing your breasts, cutting off blood circulation, and pinching your skin. You may need to shelf the bra and buy a better fitting one.
-
The Underwire is Misaligned
In some cases, the underwire may have been curved the wrong way; this may cause the underwire bra digging into ribs. Try to wiggle the underwire if it is twisted to make it lie flat. This will prevent it from digging into your ribs. If the wire is dislodged and lifts to the side, it may also poke your ribs on the sides and cause you to experience pain. Try and push it back down. You can also try and sew it in place.

The Elastic Band is Too Tight
The band at the bottom of the bra is too tight then you will feel like your ribs are being compressed. It may also cause bra chaffing. If you have the correct size bra, then this problem will correct itself in time as you wear it. You can also try to stretch it by using a hanger to a piece of plastic.

Poor Bra Design
A poorly designed bra will cause the bra to dig into your skin and cause pain. This could be because the straps are not ergonomically designed, or the cup has been stitched poorly or placed too high or too low. Try out the bra in the store to ensure the design suits your bust.
If your bra has multiple clasps, try to switch to a looser row until the rubber band has stretched, and it can fit without digging into your skin. You can also try to remove the underwire to make the bra more comfortable.
