Sports bras like regular bras tend to get looser and worn out over time. In fact, the sports bra lifespan is much shorter than that of a regular bra because of two key factors; sweat and elastic fabric.

We tend to sweat a lot when wearing a sports bra which is usually made using elastic fabric. And due to the corrosive nature of sweat, the elastic used to make sports bras breaks down over time.

As such, sports bras need replacing more often than regular bras. This case also applies to your gym clothes especially the stretchy ones. So the same principle applies to determine when to throw away workout clothes. There is also the fact that you might lose weight over the course of your gym attendance thus needing to buy smaller sports bras and gym wear.

How Long Should Sports Bras Last?

If you are a regular gym goer, then the average timeline would be between 6 and 12 months. Timelines on when to throw away sports bra are mostly guidelines. They are not cast in stone. In most cases, the answer to how often should you replace a sports bra is largely dependent on how often you work out, the intensity of your work out, and the type of material your sports bras are made from.

It would be foolish to throw out a barely worn sports bra after 6 months if you have not been going to the gym for the last 4 months. All in all, you should gauge whether the sports bra is offering you’re the support needed in the gym and replace it as needed.

Just remember, wearing an ill-fitting sports bra will not only make you uncomfortable as you train, but it will also damage breast tissue. Sagging breasts are usually a result of a breakdown in breast tissue. So replace your sports bras to retain your breast’s perkiness. Which is a worthy compromise if you ask me.
